The 66th event of Grammy Awards ceremony which took place in Los Angeles’ Crypto•com Arena California was concluded on Sunday evening February 4, 2023 and Davido encountered his worst moment at the show.

Unfortunately for Davido being called the King of Afrobeat lost three chances on the rally. It was his first time ever to be included on the list of nominees and it is quite sad Davido lost the Grammy.

Followers and supporters are anxious about Davido missing the golden statuette of a gramophone that would have been presented to him by Grammys. The singer seems not to be worried as he rather thanked Grammy for the opportunity to leverage on global headlines through the Annual show.

Davido was defeated by Tyla who won the Best African Music Performance with her viral blazing song titled ‘Water’. She became the Grammy award winner on that category that also had Burna Boy, Asake and Ayra Starr.

Why Davido Did Not Win Grammy Awards

The main reason why ‘Unavailable’ crooner, Davido couldn’t win any of his nomination at the Grammys was because he’s not a registered member in the United States music industry. Winning the award was not something an artiste could achieve by popularity or numbers of streams he/she got on a song or album.

Supposed that the Grammy awards winner was to be selected base on how many play-times an artiste had, ‘Unavailable’ by Davido received about 112million plays and ‘Water’ by Tyla yield over 265millon plays.

Regardless of his failure in the competition, Davido remains the biggest music artiste in Africa and the most sought-after entertainer in Nigeria music market. His colleagues, Asake contested for the show with ‘Amapiano’, Ayra Starr with ‘Rush’ and Burna Boy who won the 63th Grammy Award came along with ‘City Boys’.

How does Grammy Award organizers select it’s Winner?

The screening committee of American-hosted Music Achievement Award Ceremony (GRAMMY) decide a winner of the show using the following criteria:

  1. The music artiste must be recognized in the U.S by registration.
  2. Quality of art created in a song also matters, not how well it is publicized.
  3. Nominees’s song with the highest votes in a category wins.

According to Mason Harvey the director in chief at Grammy’s Recording Academy, those are the criteria the team use to judge musical performance of all nominees and get the winner afterwards.

Out of annoyance that the superstar was not given an award after a whole lot of hype and expectations, some concern 30BG fans have went far to reporting the official page of Grammy organizers, urging instagram app to take down their profile.
